Elevate Your Skills and Navigate Washington State Law with NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting
SW WASHINGTON – For those in Southwest Washington looking to purchase their first firearm, obtain a concealed pistol permit, or simply enhance their shooting prowess, Willapa Firearms Training announces its frequently offered NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting (BOPS) course. This comprehensive, one-day class, held at a private range, is the perfect starting point for new and experienced shooters alike. 
The BOPS course is meticulously designed to provide a thorough grounding in firearm safety and responsible gun ownership. The curriculum covers essential gun handling safety rules, including maintaining a safe direction , keeping the finger off the trigger until ready to shoot , and keeping the gun unloaded until ready to use it. Students will also delve into the core fundamentals of marksmanship, such as proper grip , aiming , breath control , and trigger control.
“Our training goes above and beyond what is already an amazing and comprehensive training course that is well established and perfect for the brand new shooter, young or old, or the experienced shooter that wants to improve or refine their skills,” says Heath Layman, lead instructor at Willapa Firearms Training.
Layman, an experienced law enforcement officer and firearms instructor, brings a wealth of knowledge to the course. He is joined by a team of experienced instructors who help facilitate the training. The intensive course runs from 8:00 AM to approximately 5:30 PM and is limited to the first 18 students who register, ensuring personalized attention. The $180.00 fee includes hands-on experience with a variety of pistols, allowing students to “try before you buy” in a safe and controlled setting. The course culminates in a live-fire shooting qualification, where students must demonstrate proficiency to earn their certification.
Navigating Washington’s Firearm Training Laws
The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course provides the certificate necessary to satisfy existing Washington state training requirements. Furthermore, it appears this comprehensive program will cover the new laws coming into effect. However, final guidelines for these new regulations are still being finalized through the Washington State Patrol (WSP). We are monitoring the situation closely to ensure our course continues to meet all state mandates.
Upon successful completion of the course, which includes passing a written examination and live-fire exercises, students will receive a nationally recognized NRA certificate. This certification is invaluable for any gun owner and serves as a prerequisite for the many other advanced courses offered by Willapa Firearms Training.
