A Big Round for the AR-15: CMMG MkW-15 .458 SOCOM

A Big Heavy Round

CMMG Inc, of  Boonville, MO, USA has created a thumper that is fun to shoot and packs a punch.

The MkW-15 Resolute shoots a big heavy round.  We tested it with a variety of ammunition including the PolyCase Inceptor ARX ammunition – a 200 grain bullet going at a velocity of 2,250 feet per second and delivering 2,249 ft. lbs. of energy at the target.

.458 SOCOM

The .458 SOCOM (Special Operations Command) was born of a desire for a M4 platform round that could incapacitate drugged and determined forces around 2,000 in Mogadishu.  What was born from that need is a round that slams into its target with massive energy!

CMMG’s Offerings

CMMG offers a couple of different packages with their rifles which we’ve gone over before but basically they offer their rifles by category; Banshee, Resolute, and Endeavor.

The Resolute is CMMG’s line of carbines with 16” barrels and they provide them in 9 different calibers, and all come with CMMG’s lifetime quality guarantee.  The Resolute offers a 7075-T6 receiver, 6 position adjustable stock, M-LOK® free float handguard, SBN finish on the barrels, and are known for being accurate and maneuverable.

Shooting this gun felt like shooting a 12-gauge shotgun in an AR platform.

Familiar Platform

The 10 round CMMG modified Lancer magazine performed flawless and the familiarity of the 30 round AR magazine made loading and manipulating seamless.

Riflescope

When testing this gun, we utilized a Nikon Black Force 1000.  This riflescope is a fast and accurate rifle scope that is perfect for a AR/MSR platform and offers a true 1x magnification and 4x zoom.  The beauty of this riflescope is its design for both-eyes-open shooting as well as aiming precision for extended ranges.  The Nikon Black Force 1000 is full multi coated with anti-reflective compounds for bright, sharp, high contrast sighting at all magnifications.

I found myself accurately and quickly shooting the Nikon Black Force 1000 without any orientation time being spent on it.  This riflescope just worked and felt natural.    The Nikon Black Force 1000 MSRP for $399.95 but I was able to find it for less on several websites.

A Bigger Bang Stick

If you’re wanting a bigger bang stick but you enjoy shooting AR platform rifles – you need to check out the CMMG Resolute MkW-15 .458 SOCOM.

After you get your CMMG on its way, try out the Nikon Black Force 1000 and get some ammunition from PolyCase on the way!  It’ll only be about $3.49 a round for the good stuff!
