Not Built for Safe Queens: Maxim Defense DSX-D Extreme Duty Suppressors

The DSX-D Duty Suppressor System from Maxim Defense produces a significant reduction of sound signature, flash and recoil. Performance is great, but DSX-D does all this in a rugged package that improves accuracy! With an MSRP of $1,295.00, it is pricey but you get what you pay for. While sound performance varies greatly based on weapon configuration, ammunition, barrel length, and even atmospheric conditions, DSX drops sound below hearing safe levels on most rifles. A typical 5.56 AR with a 10.3” barrel produces only 134dB measured at the shooter’s left ear per MILSTD-1474D.

Another key factor in the design was to enhance rifle reliability through minimizing the cyclic rate and gas blowback. This increases the rifles life span, reduces recoil and requires less maintenance.

I teach patrol rifle for law enforcement firearms instructors. It is rapidly becoming the norm to have suppressors on police patrol rifles and I have even been to one training venue which required them. After a review of the market, I found Maxim Defense and the  DSX. I got the 5.56 can and have been using it for classes and general shooting for three months now with over a thousand rounds including some full auto fire.

The DSX is quiet and accurate. It is short and runs well. I have it direct mounted on a 11 inch Aero Precision upper. It balances well and does exactly what I need. It looks good too.

Maxim set out to make the world’s most robust suppressor. Repeatedly tested with SOCOM tables across a variety of calibers and barrel lengths, down to 5.5” 5.56 NATO with M855 ball ammunition, it survived with no damage or significant changes in sound reduction.

The suppressor consists of a three-piece M-Core design that only adds 7.25″ to the length of your rifle. It is rated for full-auto (with an 8.5″ barrel restriction) in the following calibers:

Maxim Defense  engineers designed the 3D contours of their monocore with just the right combination of chamber volume and baffle geometry to optimize fluid resistance. The DSX has an integrated M baffle in the entrance chamber to eliminate first round pop. This design makes it quiet, and easy to clean. It disassembles with common tools.

It is ideal as a multi-caliber suppressor for maximum flexibility. If the core its ever damaged by a baffle strike, you can remove the core from the serialized tube and send it to Maxim Defense.
