German-Made Liemke LUCHS-1 Named “Best Clip-On Thermal” by Outdoor Life

The German-made Liemke LUCHS-1 has been named “Best Clip-On Thermal” by Outdoor Life.

This high-definition thermal imaging device, with 35mm objective lens and heat signature detection range of up to 1,750 meters, can be used as a hand-held monocular or clipped onto the objective bell of any daytime riflescope, giving hog and predator hunters a significant advantage in low light and at night – whether scouting, hunting, or tracking.

Fast and quiet, with a startup time of only five seconds, the LUCHS-1 has a whisper-quiet calibration procedure, a rapid refresh rate of 50 Hz, and is easy and intuitive to operate. Featuring a 1024×768 OLED color display and a 640×512 12 µm VOx sensor for high contrast and detailed images, the LUCHS-1 delivers a large field of view and an image that completely fills within the daytime riflescope at 2x magnification.

“At 2x, the Liemke delivers a digital image that matches the eye box of the rifle scope. That’s an important consideration, since the image of many clip-ons appears as a small, square digital image in the scope, limiting field of view and situational awareness,” said Andrew McKean, Outdoor Life’s Hunting, Conservation, and Optics Editor. “At 2x, the Liemke has a 22-meter field of view at 100 meters. That’s wide.”

The LUCHS-1 features two image modes – sun and rain – to provide optimal detail rendition in varying weather conditions and there are five color modes, including an Extra Dark mode setting for glare-free images at night.

The device has internal memory of 32 GB and a Wi-Fi function for live streaming via an app. Users can capture photos and videos of their hunt on the internal memory even while streaming live, and these can be transferred later via USB-C port. The built-in rechargeable battery has a run time of up to 9 hours and the three-position switch – On/Standby/Off – can be used to extend battery life in the field.

“Liemke is the top thermal optics brand in Germany, and the American market is quickly recognizing the quality and performance of Liemke’s advanced thermal imaging devices,” said Jason Evans, CEO, Blaser Group. “It is an honor to have Outdoor Life recognize the LUCHS-1 as the best clip-on thermal optic for hunters.”

Liemke also offers a LUCHS-2 model with 50mm objective lens and heat detection range of up to 2,500 meters.
