Don’t Count on a Headshot

Handgun caliber makes a difference. Way back in 1984, a bank robber in Australia was holding a car full of hostages. The car was disabled and a detective approached the car with a shotgun. The car was surrounded by other officers and there was obviously no way for the bad-guy to get away. The detective decided to try and reason with him. What he got for his trouble was shot between the eyes with a .32 pistol.

As you can see from the picture, he had a reasonably neat entry wound, and ended up with a couple of nasty black eyes as well. The bullet passed between the hemispheres of his brain, bounced off the back of his skull, whizzed internally through his throat and came to rest somewhere in his shoulder. I think he spent a day or two in hospital and was released.

The robber however, received a few extra holes courtesy of the other police officers, including his very own to the head as well. He wasn’t as lucky and did not survive.

Just because you are shot doesn’t mean you will die. Just because you shoot some one does not mean they will stop fighting.
